Project Description

BRT WEST STATION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The West Terminus station is a centralized location where passengers can transfer between the BRT and MAX service. The project seeks to integrate into the community through a public plaza and through its architectural character. The terminus building provides passenger amenities such as toilet rooms, passenger information, ticketing, and waiting area, along with small support spaces for BJCTA. There are two sets of transit canopies onsite, one for MAX buses and one for BRT buses. These canopies have distinct architectural features to allow the passenger to differentiate between the two modes of service. The BRT canopy references the Birmingham Xpress brand while the MAX canopy integrates more into the architectural style of the surrounding area. A central plaza helps control water runoff through diversified plantings while providing a comfortable space for passengers to wait. The project as a whole improves transit connectivity at the site through increased service and passenger amenities while integrating into the surrounding community.
