Project Description

SCHOOL OF NURSING

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

With an increase demand for an educated nursing workforce, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is constructing an addition to the existing School of Nursing to accommodate its student and faculty population. The Project will allow the School of Nursing (School) to plan for long term growth to its educational, clinical and research programs in a modern and state-of-the-art facility. The proposed development will demolish 24,000 gross square feet from the eastern portion of the first floor of the existing School of Nursing Building and construct a new five story classroom and faculty office tower, with approximately 72,500 gross square feet of space, in its place. The basement of the Building, which is currently a single level parking garage, will be fit-up to house a large auditorium, classroom space, a storm shelter and mechanical support space.

Efforts are being coordinated with other architectural disciplines to provide a comprehensive design. Engineering services include civil site design, site grading and drainage plan, erosion and sediment control plans, utility systems design, civil construction details and construction administration.
